Ariadne

Name: Ariadne
Pronouns: She/Her
Race: Hylian
Class: Apprentice Healer

Appearance: Ariadne would describe herself as a fairly average example of the most average race in Hyrule. She's a 24 year old Hylian with an average build, though maybe a little on the thin side. She has short, messy brown hair and green eyes. She prefers to wear masculine-presenting clothing, though it's more of a comfort and fashion thing for her than purposeful gender non-conformity. After all, there's no point in wearing something pretty when you're working with horses all day. She often travels with a very large backpack containing her notebooks, random grasses and herbs, and a very outdated medical text from before the Calamity, obtained from a passing book merchant for an embarrassing amount of rupees.

Notes:
  • Ariadne hails from Snowfield Stable in Tabantha, having spent her entire life there.
  • Ariadne has never met a Goron or a Gerudo!
  • She was inspired to learn medicine at a young age, and has studied with nearby Rito healers.
  • She's recently been accepted to study with the Zora, to learn healing from them.
  • After studying with the Zora, she plans on visiting the Sheikah to learn traditional medicine.
  • Ariadne has a secret fascination with potions and shamanistic practices.
  • She doesn't really know how to get "witchy vibes", but hopes to learn someday.
  • Ariadne is oddly fearless- prone to jump scares, but will put herself in harm's way to help someone.

Jirri

Name: Deputy-Commander Blademaster Jirri
Pronouns: He/Him
Race: Sheikah (Yiga)
Class: Blood Reaver

Notes:
  • While Jirri is not a very talented mage, as his magical stores are stunted by decades of misuse, he spends all of his leftover magical energy every day infusing little glass baubles with spells. When he crushes these balls, the spell is released in an explosion of force, looking much more impressive than it actually is.
  • He spends a lot of time disguised as a Rito, Ekik, put in place by a glamour he found in the Depths during the Upheaval. He cannot fly on his own ability, and uses gusts of wind magic infused into marbles to propel him, allowing him to use a collapsible glider to direct his trajectory. Ekik has infiltrated the Survey Team and is able to purchase sorcery components through their stores, and use their funds to purchase more from magic shops in the various towns.
  • Jirri spent decades under the tutelage of Kohga. He was never meant to take over the Yiga, as Kohga attained a pseudo-immortality by pledging himself to Ganon's service during the Calamity, but all of the Blademaster leadership were given some level of magical training to allow them to teleport and utilise the windblades.
  • Jirri's main advantages as a spellcaster and warrior are his ability to analyse and plan for combat situations, and his talent as a blood mage. Jirri is able to use his life force to fuel instantaneous spellcasts and even form weapons. However, now that he's older, it takes longer to heal from these self-inflicted wounds, and he gets a lot of exercise every day to keep his body running at peak condition. He has studied magic extensively, giving him ample ability to cast spells with the proper physical and verbal components, as long as it doesn't require much of himself. Sacrificing some ash or feathers or even the life of a rodent here or there is nothing.
  • Jirri has also used his blood magic to enhance his swordfighting ability. The Yiga leader is very fit and powerful, combined with his size and experience this gives him a significant advantage as a swordsman. He gains power as he fights, every wound giving him more of a magical outlet, turning any duel into a mad race between victory and bleeding out.
  • One of his primary goals is to end the conflict between the Yiga and Sheikah. He doesn't actually care about the differences between them that much, and the main separation was Kohga's ties to the Demon King's power, a power that has since been cut and its source destroyed. While it's likely Ganon will be back some day in the future, it's not going to be within Jirri's lifetime and he'd prefer to just spend the rest of his days on the beach, eating bananas, drinking beer, and chatting with his buds on his purah pad.

Name: Ekik
Spoiler
Pronouns: He/Him

Appearance: Ekik is a somewhat tall and lanky Rito, though his posture gives a sense of pride his accomplishments may not have earned. His plumage is a mixture of golds, grey-blues, and white, bordering his face with a heart-shaped, dark gold ring. His face is somewhat flat, with pure white plumage and a beak of the same colour, only broken by two large, black eyes.

Ekik's uncommon appearance, along with his distant and detached behaviour, almost make him seem alien, no matter where he is. He often wears comfortable cloth clothing, preferring white and gold colouring, over top of which he usually wears a long coat with many pockets and hanging vials. For samples.

Notes:
  • Ekik was directionless before the Upheaval, but seemed to find himself and his calling on his first visit to the Depths. Ever since, he enjoys spending time there researching the various unique flora and, to a lesser extent, the dangerous effects gloom has on creatures.
  • He is an accomplished sorcerer, able to defend himself with magic, though he prefers to observe and remain hidden.
  • He has excellent night vision, allowing him to traverse most parts of the Depths without needing to draw attention to himself.

  • Ekik's appearance is based on the American Barn Owl, specifically this one.

  • Delving Deeper: ✅ While studying the humble puffshroom and skilfully avoiding Yiga, Ekik spies a distant balloon. He rushes to help. There, he finds Gao, the occupant of the balloon, and Sin, stalking around the Depths. While he and Sin hide away from the Yiga, Gao attempts to negotiate with the bandits in an attempt to get them to leave. Unfortunately, with the arrival of Claria, things prove not to be quite so easy as they had hoped.

Reverie

Name: Reverie
Pronouns: She/Her
Race: Sheikah (half-Hylian, but her culture places importance on matrilineal lineage)
Class: Weaponmaster

Appearance: If asked this question, Reverie wouldn't really know what to say. She grew up in a place where appearance was much less important than the skills someone could bring to bear, so she's never really thought about it. She's in her late 20s, about average height for a Hylian. Her pale blue hair reaches to her mid-back, but is usually kept up in plaits. Her eyes are a pale lavender.

She wears armour passed down to her from her mother, who received it from her mother, who received it from hers. Though the original fabrics have long since faded and been replaced, the original metal has been obsessively maintained. Her grandmother was a Knight-Captain at Hyrule Castle in the years before the Calamity, and worked to lead a group of survivors out into Hebra. The armour carries many scratches and scars, but it also carries a certain sense of responsibility and purpose. The sleeveless tabard over the armour is dark blue, with gold piping and the golden crest of Hyrule over the chest and back, replicated as the old tabard had faded. She also wears a basic metal spangenhelm in the style of Hylian knights. It used to have a horsehair mohawk element to it, but that's long-since fallen away.

Notes::
  • Reverie also wields her great-grandfather's service longsword. The blade has been replaced, but the hilt and scabbard are original.
  • Reverie earned the right to use the historical armour and longsword by proving herself during a bokoblin invasion during the Upheaval.
  • Reverie once participated in a group slaying of a Moblin that had begun harassing their hunters.
  • Though she's somewhat proficient in hunting, Reverie has historically been more comfortable with guard duty, which she's performed since she was 14.
  • Survival in the Hebra mountains required competence and hard work. Reverie was trained in swordfighting by her parents, grandparents, and other members of the community.

  • Living next to the Rito, Reverie's family got into hawk training. She has her own Islander Hawk named Valour, who helps her scout out areas. He's a very good bird.

Sable

Name: Sable Atelia (Qilzaku)
Pronouns: She/Her
Race: Rito
Class: Brewer/Alchemist

Appearance: Much like her father, Sable is a peacock-variant Rito. She keeps her vibrant blue hair cut short and styled upward, while the mostly green but occasional gold and blue that make up her plumage have forced her to stand out her entire life, even when she didn't want it. While she doesn't tower over the average Rito to the same extent as Kaneli did when she was young, she is a solid head taller than the average Rito. She has a thin but sharp, hooked predator's beak, and blue-grey eyes with just enough of a hint of steel to them to hint at who she is underneath all the glamour.

She's often joked that she is forced to wear very plain-looking clothes just to keep from overwhelming other people due to her size and colouration. What this doesn't tell is how much effort Sable puts into toning her appearance back. She wears loose-fitting clothes that drape, sometimes to the floor, often in neutral or earthy colours. This is "because they handle heat in the desert better" though they also allow her some privacy. She applies various enchantment glamours and alchemical solutions to further assist in this muting, but those are best left for another time.

Backstory:
Spoiler
Sable was born ——— Qilzaku in Rito Village during the 100-Year Calamity. Her father was a musician, her mother a botanist. Though her parents were very good to her, and she was very loved, she was quiet and generally depressed for reasons nobody could understand. She would occasionally say very strange things, or make references to people or events that nobody knew about. Dismissing it as the imagination of a child seemed to only make her more upset, more withdrawn and quiet at home.

Even as a child, Sable seemed to be an oddly excellent judge of character. She bonded instantly and deeply with a small number of people, and would go out of her way to avoid others. She spent a lot of time learning how to play the guitar like her father, becoming somewhat proficient (so much as a pre-teen can become proficient) before eventually dropping music entirely to go spend more time with her mother, growing flowers in the Tabantha wilderness and keeping a massive garden they used to feed the people of Rito Village.

Nobody told Sable how her mother died. One day, a guard who had been patrolling the road near Rito Village came running up the bridges to the village. Her father ran off, leaving her in a neighbouring nest to take out a cart from the nearby Rito Stable, attempting to get her mother to the healers at the Snowfield Stable, but she didn't survive the trip. Sable still remembers seeing fear in her father's eyes for the first time when she would later mention "the blood splatter in the coach". That was also when she started being particularly worried about lynels roaming the roads.

Assuming something in Rito Village was causing his child to be troubled, Sable's father moved the two of them to Hateno Village the day after his wife was buried. Sable wouldn't see the grave site until her 30th birthday. Shortly after they arrived in Hateno, her father got to work performing music at the local pub. Sable was too young to be allowed in the establishment, and was often left to her own devices at home. She would spend the days speaking in a strange accent and drawing things from stories she had come up with in her mind.

When she turned 13, Sable was given to Master Rakzhou Beisahir as an apprentice. Rakzhou was a multi-specialist in artificery, considered a master engineer and enchanter. Sable was much more interested in the enchanting side, showing a natural talent for basic illusion and infusion that only grew stronger with the master's guidance. When her father disappeared shortly after her 14th birthday, she hid it from Rakzhou, fearing that he would tell her to leave. She slept in the shop at night until he caught her one morning. Rakzhou and his husband Ouji took Sable in as their ward, and the master artificer simultaneously rose Sable to the rank of journeyman enchanter, allowing her to earn her own salary from her work. She was a fiercely independent child, though she opened up by learning Rakzhou's love for cooking and Ouji's love of aesthetics and performance.

Her fourteenth year was also when she adopted the name Sable Atelia for the first time, and never looked back. In the aftermath of finding the small apartment she shared with her father empty and abandoned- the final stab in a lifetime of tiny deaths inflicted by the man- and being saved by Rakzhou and Ouji, she began putting effort into changing her life instead of just being a victim to it. Ouji, a hummingbird Rito, helped Sable find the right ways to use her appearance, how to dress and move. She began to sleep more soundly, and eventually learned how to smile, then laugh, and finally the light in her eyes came back. She worked on how to speak, how to gesture, how to hold her head in conversations. Her enchantment training was used to create her own glamours, enhancing the natural peacock beauty. Between the ages of 14 and 20, she changed into someone completely different.

Inspired by her continuing dreams and fantasies, Sable found herself attracted to Zora. Her first attempt at a relationship had been with a young priestess named Raine when they were both 14. She was rejected, as Raine had a fiance somewhere in the world and was determined to find him. The disgust in her eyes shut down a sense of obligation and propriety in Sable that would stick with her until the present day. She settled into a flamboyant femininity and eventually caught the eye of a charming poet named Finn, a Zora "on retreat" in Hateno as he looked for inspiration. The relationship started off strong, she seemed to know all of his likes and wants, and postured in all the right ways to suggest and provide.

But things wouldn't remain positive in their relationship. Eventually, Finn became clingy. His poetry about her lost its pining quality, gaining instead resentment and obsession. He started asking questions too personal even for their relationship like what had happened to her tail, said she looked better before certain adjustments or changes that she found more comfortable. After work one day in her nineteenth year, she left to get groceries, and Finn followed her home. Despite being shorter than the average Hylian, positively tiny compared to both Sable and Finn, Rakzhou confronted the Zora. Finn swung first, and though he ended up with a broken nose, a torn arm-fin, and significant bruising, he broke Rakzhou's wing, a permanent injury that stopped the artificer from ever being able to fly again. Sable agonised over this, blamed herself, and decided it would be best if wasn't around anymore. She wished her adoptive dads well, and said she would come back, but that she would see Gerudo Village for a time.

On her way out of the city, Sable was grabbed off the street. Despite his wounds, Finn had her dragged into the mountains between Hateno and Zora's Domain, where she was kept imprisoned for more than a month. At first, he didn't physically harm her, and instead preferred to rant at her about all the ways he was being unfairly treated. How he had done so much for her, overlooked so many things about her. For days, he yelled and complained and tried to break her down. Sable cried, begged to be let go, promised not to tell anyone what happened. Eventually, he moved on to physically abuse her, taking out his anger about the indignity of being beaten by Rakzhou on her. Once more, she became quiet and withdrawn. She retreated into sleeping. And one day, she woke up to find him gone. He had just disappeared. The door unlocked, she fled to Gerudo Town, too scared to even go back to Hateno.

When she arrived in Gerudo Town, Sable was immediately set upon by the Gerudo, who fawned over her, told her how beautiful she was, and immediately took her in to replenish her gaunt and frazzled form. She spent a year not leaving the city, abandoning enchanting when she was able to begin working at the Noble Canteen with Furosa, who taught her the business of drink making. The two women had a natural rapport and formed a close bond. As she learned to smile and laugh again, Sable even enchanted her own glamoured jewellery to travel back to Hateno in secret, arriving to spend the Yuletide Festivals with Rakzhou and Ouji in secret, though she never left their home as herself. They also never learned what happened or why she had spent more than two years away.

As Vah Nabooris rose from the sands and drove away new business, Sable chipped in to do her part. The Gerudo forces wished for enchanted weaponry, and she used her training to assist. Offensive spells weren't her strength, but she worked directly from guiding texts, doing step-by-step instructions to infuse their weaponry with electric damage.

She was found unconscious in her room after not showing up to work one evening shortly after her 25th birthday. Furosa had her taken to a medical facility, where she remained unconscious for several days. When Sable woke up, she seemed shellshocked and lost. She didn't want to sleep, she talked about impossible things, things that had never happened, and she couldn't remember several of the regulars at the Noble Canteen. Instead, she went off to open her own tavern on the opposite side of Gerudo Town, the post-Calamity opening up bringing in increased business and allowing both pubs to operate with different ideas. It was at this time that she began dressing more plainly, as if to avoid sticking out as much as she had previously.

During the Upheaval, Sable sat in the shelter with the Gerudo women, doing her best to keep the children entertained and not panicking. She told them stories of distant islands in the ocean, of sailing and meeting all sorts of interesting fantastical people. Of blue-haired ruffians with handheld cannons shooting mystical relics and transporting cities, of wicked warlords conquering her home from their own land of undead, only to be fought back and defeated by heroes including Gerudo much like them. She performed little light shows and glamours to become different characters.

It took a long time for the Gibdo threat to be eradicated, and once it was over, Sable assisted in rebuilding to the extent she could. She was a much more shrewd businessperson at this point, eyes sharper and negotiations much more formal and professional. But she went out of her way to give as much leniency and leeway as she could to the Gerudo. During the rebuilding, she met Alyson, a young engineer of the Hudson Construction Company. They became fast friends, Sable taking on Alyson's services to bring her exotic ingredients. Both were clearly hiding things, but Alyson accepted Sable fully, and Sable was happy to have what was really her first true friend since childhood.

Something had changed in Sable, though in truth many things had changed at many different points. She had rewritten herself so many times and lived in so many places, keeping her heart hidden away from the people around her, that few noticed that she was often changing. And upon seeing Queen Zelda's missive to help rebuild Castle Town, she packed up No Harm, No Fowl and moved, ready to see what the next change would mean for her.

Book I: Fledgling
Sagitta Luminis

Sable was born on Dragon Roost Island, the second child of Komali and Medli. As princess of Dragon Roost, she was burdened with expectations, but as the second born, she was never burdened with the expectations of leadership. Her brother, Skye, was eight years older and missing for much of her early childhood, as he was at their father's side learning the daily life of being chieftain. She would carry a distant fondness for the memory of her mother for her entire life, as the blurriness of youth sense memory blended together the warmth of Medli and Lord Valoo.

Sable first met Lord Valoo when she was still an infant, but her first memory of meeting him was when she was four, still being carried in her mother's arms but able to (mostly) understand the great dragon's rumblings. As Princess of Dragon Roost Island, she began spending more time atop the island with her mother, preparing to become Lord Valoo's attendant once she was old enough to get her own scale. But fate had other plans in mind for her.

Her uncle Iorvas was the first person to realise Sable had awakened as a Dreamwalker. As he would later explain to her, the lineage of Dragon Roost Chieftains came from an uncommon power to walk the world of dreams. Though the Dreamwalkers themselves were often not made Chieftain, they were invaluable members of the Chieftain's inner circle, cherished advisors. Part of the power of a Dreamwalker was conscious function even while asleep, granting them the ability to think and learn through every hour of the day. A Dreamwalker could spend a second looking at each page of a book, only to pull it back into the subconscious realm of dreams and read it there. They could visit the subconscious of others and interact with their dreams, implanting thoughts or suggestions, extracting information to use in the day.

Sable was seven years old when Skye died. A common game on Dragon Roost was the Diving Game, where two fresh-scale teenagers would challenge one another to a freefall challenge, the loser being whoever pulled out of the dive first. Skye was headstrong and believed that a Chieftain to be should be the bravest Rito. He was challenged by another young Rito, Raziya, who was from the guard caste and was desperate for the respect of her peers. Both feeling like they had everything to lose, they held the dive for too long. Raziya finally lost her nerve first, pulling out just in time to escape with the severe injuries of skipping across water instead of slamming into it. Skye attempted to pull out after she did, but it was too late. Chief Komali exiled Raziya and her family from Dragon Roost.

Sable was suddenly in a very precarious position. She was still in training for the position of Valoo's attendant, while also in training as a Dreamwalker, and was suddenly the only child of Dragon Roost's leadership, meaning she would inherit the position of Chieftain upon Komali's eventual death. By Lord Valoo's decree, she was to be trained for both positions, taking on the position of attendant upon receiving her scale, and then training another attendant to take on the duties once she was eventually made Chieftain. Her days and nights became full of lessons. Even on birthdays, while other Rito were allowed to visit Windfall Island, or occasionally even the distant shores of Termina or Hyrule, Sable was given one gift, delivered in ritual before Valoo, before being released to go study or wander Dragon Roost until the next day.

Sable and Iorvas were sitting on the shore of one of the outlying sandbars surrounding Dragon Roost when the attack came. Sable was 14, just beginning to come into her own as a person, still learning ethics and duty in a vicegrip while not attending Lord Valoo during the day. Iorvas was going to teach her how to jump into subconscious dominions from longer distances as an early-warning system for her future position as Chieftain. They watched incendiary shots strike the shoreline, causing cave-ins and fires. They had heard the stories from Termina, of course. Of how Igos du Ikana and his vile undead had overtaken the land, the final stand within the walls of Clock Town only succeeding when the Archmage of Hyrule and his rumoured lover (at least in the tabloids) fired a handheld cannon into a piece of the Triforce, teleporting the entire city onto a plateau in western Hyrule. But how were they supposed to know the undead would pierce the veil of darkness and attack?

Sable was tasked with flying to Hyrule to beg for help. Iorvas went to defend his brother and the people of Dragon Roost from Grand Admiral Raziya Hawkeye's occupation fleet. Sable reached the eastern shore of Hyrule in the early morning hours, reporting through tears and sobs to the soldiers, who put her in a carriage to Castle Town, where she would be put in an inn and looked after until help could be put together. That night, she slept fitfully, putting a half-learned lesson about distance into practice and accidentally finding herself in the mind of a local mage, where she found a young child crying. Remembering the lesson that children sometimes wandered out of their own dreams by accident before learning self-consciousness, she brought the infant back to her much more comfortable, organised subconscious. She was exhausted the next day.

Sable waited for weeks. She went to the castle, but was turned away. She sought the dreams of the guards, where she couldn't find orders. They didn't even seem to know that Rito royalty was in the city, let alone that Dragon Roost was attacked. She had been put in a cage and forgotten about, an underwritten expense on a ledger that would never be checked because the kingdom's coffers were too full to notice.

Finally, she went to a local shop, just to combat the despair causing her to spend most of her time sleeping, spending time in a place where she had more direction, more control, over events. This shop, called The Sinking Lure, was a fishing lure and bait shop, run by a massive, hulking Zora named Xane. Xane had a tendril coming from just above his forehead, hanging in front of his face with a light on it. His otherwise dark-brown body was a constellation of pale blue specks of light. He was surly and quiet except for the occasional, unexpected explosion of violence. Despite his calm demeanour, Sable had taken express notice of his eyes. His eyes showed a sharp, analytical mind, constantly looking for an angle or opportunity. He was clearly much more than just a shopkeeper.

Xane saw something in Sable as well, and asked if she could help him with some business. There were some guards snooping around his place, and questioning his lieutenants. With a laugh like the tide rolling over a pebbled beach, he rasped that it would be inconvenient for a double murder investigation to be happening at a time like this. Not sure how to go about doing this, and with nothing else she could control, Sable struck up a conversation with the guards, as respectful and official as possible in all of her training, asking wasn't this shop just wonderful, how her parents- the chieftains of Dragon Roost- were avid fisherfolk and swore by this place and were close personal friends of the proprietor. And, of course, she locked in on their subconscious positions, revisiting them that night to reinforce the position that they had completed their investigations and were both satisfied to report that nothing strange was happening at The Sinking Lure.

Book II: Fall
Somnio

Upon returning to the Lure the next morning, Sable was greeted by Xane, along with his lieutenants Sar and Khaj, who asked if she wanted a job. They had been watching her at the hotel for the past few weeks, and assumed she was someone important and in need of things to do. They, conversely, were disadvantaged people trying their best to move up in the world but didn't have any social capital. Xane was up front with what they wanted from her- someone pretty and non-threatening who could watch the front of the store while they went about their business. She didn't need to know what they were doing, just to let them know if anyone looking suspicious came around. And in return, he would, eventually, assist her in meeting with the king. He had people in the castle who could make it happen.

It was one week before Sable's curiosity got the better of her, leading her to sneak into Xane's dream, only to find herself already there. She watched the things happening with extreme curiosity- and growing interest- and implemented some of the behaviours into her daytime existence. Despite being little more than a fledgling, Sable's experiences in the dream had implanted upon her a dangerous attraction to the Zora, one he was only too willing to indulge. She was eventually let in on the inner workings of the business, allowed into the back area of the shop, a hidden cave beneath the ground where drugs and people were trafficked, bodies were disposed of, and all sorts of other illicit activities were entertained.

Throughout this period, the child Sable had brought into her subconscious didn't leave. Instead, it became a Hylian figure entirely encased in shadow calling itself C̷̖̊h̶͎́r̴̪̍ǐ̸̟s̸͓͆t̶͍͋i̵͉͗a̵͙͊n̴̡͗. She had learned about dreamscape demons from Iorvas, but they had only briefly touched on the subject. She didn't know how to get rid of them, let alone how to resist them. Now that C̷̖̊h̶͎́r̴̪̍ǐ̸̟s̸͓͆t̶͍͋i̵͉͗a̵͙͊n̴̡͗ was in her mind, she could do little more than keep him entertained while giving up as little of herself as possible. His presence in her body and his viewpoint to the outside took the shape of a small, circular tattoo around her eye. He kept whispering to her, day and night, offering her power in return for just a small amount more control.

Sable was to learn that Xane's extra trust was yet another technique to use her talents. He introduced her to Sakon, Termina's King of Thieves, who was reaching out to local bosses and families in order to rebuild his organised crime network. After all, he was a businessman, and limiting oneself to Clock Town could only go so far. She didn't understand the point of the meeting, and extended her own sympathies and diplomatic efforts to assist in the meeting. Xane allowed her to continue on for a moment, before offering her to Sakon as a servant, a little songbird who could help him grow his empire. Xane, after all, had no use for such a tool, but was happy to offer her as a showing of good faith and relations to come. Shellshocked and betrayed- she had given everything to Xane because he had offered her assistance in getting an audience with the royal family- Sable silently entered the carriage.

As they crossed Hyrule Field, Sakon began complimenting Sable's appearance, saying that even though he usually didn't like Rito, she was quite attractive. He talked about how important he had been in Termina, how everyone had shuddered in fear when they knew he was around. He reached out, grabbed her by the throat, demanded her attention. C̸̗͙̞̯̀̀̌̈́̀͜h̵̥̰̰̯̱́̓r̷̢̃̋̃̇͝i̵͓̊̕s̴̢̮͔̟̫̍t̸̡̲̯̯̤̐͌̋̽͝ị̴̧̹͓̐ͅa̷̧̫̩̬̎̾͗̈́̈́n̶̠̰̫̪͑̚͠ once more offered her power. Unable to escape any other way, she accepted. A spear of ice impaled Sakon to the far side of the carriage. She sat there, covered in his blood, crying and catching her breath before, gradually growing numb to the scene over the hour it took to arrive. By the time the driver opened the door for her to leave, she had set her jaw, her shoulders, and the tattoo was double the size and slowly spinning, a series of blades.

The precise words she said that day did not matter. Sable entered the meeting room of the crime families of Termina drenched in the blood of her attacker. Confidence and authority radiated from her, every lesson she had learned leading to this singular moment. The family heads felt their reticence melt away, subconsciously feeling a sudden attachment to this young girl and vowing one and all to follow her. She was the new Queen of Thieves in Clock Town. She vowed to allow every family the freedom to do what they like as long as they paid their dues and contributed to the network's overall aspirations. She resolved that, if the Kingdom of Hyrule was too useless to assist, she would do whatever was necessary to raise funds and purchase every mercenary she could find to free her homeland. And if she got the opportunity, she would kill Xane herself.

Her situation in Clock Town was immediately different from what she had experienced in Castle Town. Sable was given lieutenants of her own. The first was Franklin, a middle-aged, balding Terminian who ran the night-exclusive Curiosity Shop in West Clocktown. While he was considered to be suspicious and a little slimy by the locals, he knew everyone in the district and had excellent connections. Then there was Ghost, an 18-year-old psychic Terminian. He was a patient, waifish man with what he called a hellstring: a guitar with enchanted strings that could affect the mood of people visiting the shop. Despite being young, Ghost's abilities and hatred of authority had quickly elevated him to where he was. The duo were very knowledgeable and competent, leading her through what was expected of her, what she could do in her position and what she shouldn't do, and even had suggestions for improvements she could put in place. She followed every suggestion.

Sable's reputation among the families of Termina grew quickly. Though she had combined her trained authoritative stance and charisma with subconscious plying to gain their trust, Sable was also trained to be a leader. She listened to concerns and, once she had gained an understanding of how things worked in Clock Town, was able to make changes to help the various families work together. Though their business continued- and if anything, improved- violence plummeted and the guards began looking the other way, laziness overtaking any hatred of crime.

To give herself a proper cover, Sable used business funds to buy a shop in West Clock Town. She named it the Clock Town Gem and Enchanting Shop, and began enchanting glamour crystals, weapons, armour, and clothing. She had never been officially trained in the art, and even C̸̗͙̞̯̀̀̌̈́̀͜h̵̥̰̰̯̱́̓r̷̢̃̋̃̇͝i̵͓̊̕s̴̢̮͔̟̫̍t̸̡̲̯̯̤̐͌̋̽͝ị̴̧̹͓̐ͅa̷̧̫̩̬̎̾͗̈́̈́n̶̠̰̫̪͑̚͠ seemed impressed by the professional ability she showed. The vast majority of her business was, of course, glamoured jewellery to help the upper echelon of Terminian society look their very best when dealing with each other, but she had plenty of incoming requests. She would eventually hire an apprentice, a young Terminian noblewoman named Faelinn Ashenhearst. Sable trained Faelinn in enchanting, and was impressed at how quickly she caught on, though she kept an emotional distance. After all, this was all just to free her people.

After six months of waiting, the Hylian navy launched an assault on Dragon Roost. It wasn't announced- apparently to get the drop on the undead occupiers- and resulted in multiple casualties on both sides. Sable learned that her parents had been killed by Grand Admiral Raziya early in the occupation. Ashamed of having abandoned everyone and not having had any ability to assist in freeing Dragon Roost, Sable continued working. She became a fixture of West Clock Town over the next few years. Xane had sent her letters she never responded to, at first congratulating her on taking control of Clock Town- he had always known she would be successful, they could work together- but disappeared during the fighting on Dragon Roost. She would never learn why he had joined the war effort.

At nineteen, Sable began a relationship with Ghost, who was then twenty-three. They had always been close, bonding over being too young for this line of work but still having a high level of competence in it, but nothing had ever come of it. He confessed to her that he had wanted to pursue her, but that every future he saw where he took the chance ended with her death. No matter how many variables he put in, Sable was always assassinated. She told him that it wouldn't be a problem, that she was capable and, now, alerted to the threat. She was much more interested in finding a way to rid herself of C̸̗͙̞̯̀̀̌̈́̀͜h̵̥̰̰̯̱́̓r̷̢̃̋̃̇͝i̵͓̊̕s̴̢̮͔̟̫̍t̸̡̲̯̯̤̐͌̋̽͝ị̴̧̹͓̐ͅa̷̧̫̩̬̎̾͗̈́̈́n̶̠̰̫̪͑̚͠, who had only grown more powerful over the years.

Book III: Flight
Gratia et Libertas

A Rito from Dragon Roost visited the shop one day, recognising Sable. She exclaimed that everyone had thought Sable died in the attack, that after Chief Komali was killed, Iorvas had taken the position, but he had been injured in the fighting. That Dragon Roost was severely damaged and could use help and what had Sable been doing all this time? Sable explained that she had tried to get the Hylians to help, but that the King wouldn't meet with her, the guards ignored her, and so she had tried to do whatever she could to get enough money to hire mercenaries to do it themselves. But once the Hylians finally went- without her- she had felt too ashamed to go back. That she had failed when her people needed her most.

Nobody had blamed Sable, explained the visitor. She had been a child, scared and alone with a burden nobody deserved placed on her. If she had come back before the forces of Ikana had been destroyed, she would have died with her parents. That wouldn't have helped anyone. But she had been selected by Valoo, and trained by her parents, she should come home and help them with what remained of the rebuilding process. Sable scheduled for Faelinn to run the shop while she was gone. She had elevated the Terminian to a journeyman years before at this point, even if she didn't have any official accreditation as an artisan to do so.

She was terrified of the trip, absolutely horror-stricken. She had killed people, participated in running a criminal syndicate for five years. It had all seemed distant, dreamlike, before meeting one of her own and crashing back to reality. She paced on the boat- she had stopped flying because she lived in the thieves' compound beneath Clock Town and never left the city. Once they arrived, Sable flew to the top of the island, determined to meet Lord Valoo before anyone else. There, she met Quetzal, Valoo's attendant. Quetzal recognised Sable, of course, addressing her as princess and acting with the utmost dignity. She also seemed to read Sable's overwhelming anxiety. She told her not to worry, that the people of Dragon Roost had long mourned her when they thought her dead, and loved her dearly. Lord Valoo would understand.

And he did. Valoo's presence filled Sable with a warmth and feeling of love she hadn't felt since she was a child. He told her there was nothing to forgive, that she had done her best to survive and had returned to him. He also sensed the presence of something in her mind, and tasked her with purging it- that Iorvas would help.

Iorvas, missing a wing and clearly despising the position of Lord Regent of Dragon Roost, was overjoyed to see Sable. He embraced her, but could immediately tell what was wrong. He and Lord Valoo assisted Sable that night in binding the demon, but she would have to expel it alone. Diving deep into her own subconscious, Sable fought in battles, faced off against remnants of Raziya's forces and her own deepest fears, and finally faced Ç̴̛̤̬̫̩̖̘̥͚̠͇̬̣̦̖̼̹͗̒̈́̀ḧ̴̨̦̹̹̹̜̹̖̳̪̬̱͚̜̘̘͈͚̥̮́͆̿̐̓͆͒̈́̀̑̏͂̿͂̾͌̾̽̄͋́̑̽̅̃̾̀̎́̍̚̕͜͝r̷̢͎̮͉̗̮͕̘̯̣͈͇̫̘̭̪̥͍̻͙̱̖̺̜͓̜̩̲̼̗̲̬̲̯͓̙̘̗̳̥͖̰̦̲̉̽͛̌̃̉̿͛͊̾̈́̑̒̀͑̏̾̽̄͋̃̑̈̅̄̓͑͛̓̏͗̊́̎̽̉̓͐͐̕̕̕̕͜͝͠͠i̴̫̥͕̩̦̮͔͓̗͊́̐̓̽̑͊͂̎̐̀̇́͐̽͌̀͒͜͝s̸̛̩͈̟̱̆̇͋̔͆̆͂͆͛̇̒̍̌̋̂̌̓͆̔͆̇̋̕͘͝t̶̨̛̤̭̩͚͓̤͍̺͎̻̘̭̘̥͓̘̮̱̘͖̺̾͌̐̿̽̄̂́͌͒̎͒̈́̄̃̃͊̿̿̍̔̈̈́̇͒̆̔͛̊̾̄̉̊̕̚̕͜͠͝͝͝i̸̛̠̝͙̦̗̦̲̠͖͓̱̳̖̭̤͓̟̩̟̖̮͍͎̣͉̤͓̻̗̺̖̜̫̲̭͂̍͒͐͒̂̽͒̎̈́͒͌͛̉̒͋͑̀͋̅̓̋͠͠͝ͅa̶̟̤̙̦͇̳̺̙̠̜͍͕͍̲̱̗͍̰͓̱̓̊͂̓͗̇̄̃̑̋̓̄͋̋̿̎̌̏͊̓̉͆̽̒̚̕͘͝͝͠͠͝ņ̶̘̝̱̖̗̤̳͓̯͕̿́̑̾̽̄̋̋́̉̑̏̉̔̽̔͊̈́̆̄͑̈́͐̈̚̕ face to face. He sneered at her, told her all the ways he was being unfairly treated. How he had done so much for her, overlooked so many things about her. Despite being chained up in Sable's dreamspace, the demon towered over her. And she forgave him. She took responsibility for bringing him into her mind, for accepting his offers. She thanked him for saving her on multiple occasions, but told him it was time to leave. When he yelled, she didn't flinch. And finally, with the overwhelming pressure of her entire focus upon him, C̶h̸r̴i̴s̶t̴i̷a̸n̵ ceased to be.

The next morning, bereft of magical ability but feeling free and clean for the first time in her life, Sable told Iorvas she had to clear up some things in Clock Town, but would return in a week, and stay permanently. He wished her luck, gave her a kiss on the head, and let her go. She flew to Clock Town, where she took Faelinn out to dinner and gifted her the shop. She kept her position as Queen of Thieves, but informed Franklin that she would be running things from a distance. It was too dangerous to let the more violent family heads take control, but she would look out for a new talent. She withdrew the dragons' horde of rupees she had banked over the years, which would be used not for mercenaries, but to help fund repairs. Dragon Roost was a series of caves that had been horrifically damaged, and was mostly held up with scaffolding at this point. She would invest in proper stoneworkers and architects to stabilise the mountain.

The night before she was to leave, Sable had a knock at her door. She opened it to see another deep-sea Zora, much like Xane but smaller and younger. The Zora was holding one of the clockwork hand-cannons, clearly weighing whether to shoot her. Sable had no means of self-defence, she could only ask why. But as the Zora raised her weapon, she was shot instead. Ghost stood there, out of breath from sprinting across the city. His years of worrying had finally resulted in success.

Post-Script
Dei Iudicium

Sable was Chieftain of Dragon Roost for five years. Shortly after her twenty-fifth birthday, she took a final trip to Clock Town. She had a few loose ends she wanted to tie up, and she had finally prepared a replacement to take over the underground crime families who wouldn't devolve the lot of them back into unending violence. She and Ghost had been married, and he travelled frequently back and forth from Dragon Roost to Clock Town, where he watched over things on Sable's behalf. Quetzal had completed her time as Valoo's attendant and, with Sable's guidance, had decided to travel around Hyrule and learn more about the people there. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do with her life yet.

Sable travelled with two bodyguards, Skett and Akoot. They arrived in Clock Town and rented out two rooms of an inn in East Clock Town. Sable travelled with Ghost to operational headquarters, where she met with several people. First was Faye Dragomir, whose anti-magical abilities and aura had caught her interest. He was a witch-hunter, and she had been interested in using his abilities to hunt down some mage threats to one of the families. Bringing him into the business fully as a replacement for Ghost was a long-term hope, but she planned on proposing that after the job was complete. She also met with an associate of one Collin Riot, who she hoped to pay for some non-magical investigative services. Finally, later in the evening, she was approached by Rizali Corvus, an archmage of the Twili House Imperius. Rizali claimed to know of several threats on Sable's life and offered her services to provide countermeasures. Sable tasked Rizali with coming back the next day and introducing herself properly to Sable's retinue.

The next morning, Franklin came personally to inform Sable that at some point during the night, Ghost had been attacked and killed, his remains found in North Clock Town that morning. Sable's world cracked. She couldn't understand how a psychic could be taken by surprise. Though she was barely able to hear the news, she did her best to understand what was being told to her. Ghost had given as good as he took, a back-and-forth battle from South to East and finally to North Clock Town, where he and his attacker seemed to inflict heavy wounds on each other simultaneously. Given the circumstances, she wasn't able to meet with anyone for the remainder of the trip.

For the next several days, Sable didn't sleep. She poured over documents, demanded the world of her retinue, and finally found a name: Serana Crownshield, a Lorekeeper of Hyrule who had gone rogue after the king she pledged loyalty to was killed in battle. Serana had begun a crusade against criminals, killing several in Castle Town before somehow arriving in Clock Town the previous night. Nobody knew how she escaped the city after the fight.

Sable enlisted the services of Rizali, the Twili happily providing portal services and magical reinforcement, but the Queen of Thieves had something more drastic in mind. She went to sleep one final time, having completed the ritual to become a dreamscape demon. S̵͚̕à̴̺b̵̟̑l̵͖͊ȩ̸̍ manifested herself in the waking world, a horrendous creature of fang and claw and eyes all throughout her body. She sought out the hospital where Serana stayed, and the two clashed. She was able to crush the life and watch the light leave the Sheikah's blinded eyes before her own actions caught up with her. For a dreamscape demon cannot live in the waking world for long.

Backstory:
Spoiler

Qilzaku Sable was born in the village of Haven, capital of the Eastern Rito Confederacy. The Eastern Rito had long ago moved to the Sky Islands above eastern Hyrule, where they placated the dragon Argorok with food and care in return for safety and scales, allowing them to fly. Under the Matriarch's system, all children were cared for by the community, meaning that while they would know their parents, they were communally raised in a creche system so that all members of the community could support and teach them.

Growing up, Sable knew which adults were her parents, and understood the physical bond that inferred between them. She also understood that her younger brother, Ranuu, had a connection to her that the other children didn't, but these were theoretical connections. She was pampered, as were all the children, with their village full of parents and siblings. Theirs wasn't the only creche, of course, it was simply their community within the wider city of Haven. As the children grew older, they would be introduced to other creches, and teachers would make the rounds to teach everyone. She learned the history of the Eastern Rito, how the wider Rito empire had split into North, West, and East centuries before. She learned civics, engineering, mathematics. She learned how to appreciate literature and theatre. She was brought to the farming collectives, where she watched and helped work with the various plants and animals.

As a very young child, Sable had realised she was a dreamwalker. She could visit other people in their dreams, watch and participate as she liked. She could suggest things to them or withdraw ideas from their subconscious, to use it in the waking world. She made friends quickly and easily, everyone around her felt like she truly saw and understood them. With nobody to teach her control or how to work within limits, she never saw a problem with this ability and used it to her advantage.

When Sable turned 14, she began working part time as a logistics officer for the farming collectives. She was incredibly organised and good with mathematics, and her confidence grew significantly during this time. She developed crushes on some of the other girls she worked with, and with the inherent confidence of anonymity existing in dreams, she sought them out, happy to find that with the proper plying, they were always equally interested in what she wanted. Though she would often flirt with these women in the waking world, she never approached the same level of impropriety as she did while asleep. She became the girl that everyone her age desired, and her apparent chastity only inflamed those desires further.

Sable stayed in the logistics office through the remainder of her school years. At nineteen, she was in charge of the logistics for two collectives, her small home on the premises of one of the major wheat farms. The sowers and reapers knew they could always come by her office to cool off during the work, that she always had a pie in the windowsill and a cup of tea only minutes away. She worked diligently, believing fully in the society she contributed to. She was playful, always enjoying games and puzzles. When the farmers would visit, she would always challenge them to a game of cards, or a board game. She would talk to them at length about a book she was reading, or a play she had seen in central Haven. There was something about theatre and theatrical performances that truly spoke to Sable- she loved more than anything to watch people. Her heart would pound, she'd cover her face, the drama would overtake her. She knew that if she wasn't a logistical officer, she would be on the stage.

One day, there was a knock at her door; Tianis, the newly-proclaimed Matriarch, stood before her with two bodyguards. Tianis complimented Sable's work, said she had heard nothing but good things about Sable. That her talent was wasted in this position, that with a mind like hers, she could do so much more. Though she was offering Sable a job in the central planning offices, Sable was able to see the obvious subtext, a deep and carnal desire to possess her. Sable had been smitten with the Matriarch since she had first seen her, and was more than happy to go along with the work.

Tianis was a block of steel, all muscle and discipline. Her eyes were steel, her mind unchanging. She was a force of nature in all the best ways, and she was more than happy to allow Sable into her mind, where Sable became the ultimate servant to her desires. Give that she had never told anyone of her abilities, and everyone believed their flings were entirely within their own minds, Sable could get away with her true purpose. The subconscious energy placed into desire of her, the longing, the anguish, the lust, fuelled her. Sable's energy level fluctuated along how much those around her wanted her. And Tianis wanted her desperately.

Though she was given a real career within the Matriarch's services- Tianis could see Sable's dedication and the magnetic attraction she had to those she worked with, and planned to train her as an ambassador so that she could rebuild the relations between the disparate Rito groups- Sable's real value in the Central Spire was as a lover. Tianis could relax around her, sought her counsel on things while they lounged in her luxurious bed. Sable plumbed the depths of that great, strategic mind, and when the bags under Tianis's mind grew too dark, when the brightness of her eyes grew dull, Sable found for the first time that she had no desire to continue digging. She allowed her lady to rest and recover.

The realisation scared her. Sable wasn't sure if she was able to experience true affection for someone- after all, if she did, it would be altogether too easy to overload the subconscious space of that person and kill them. If she held back out of affection, it would drain her, and she hadn't been tired a day of her life after discovering this ability. When she had spread her affections thin across an entire populace, everyone benefited. The concentration could only hurt.

So she broke it off. Sable told Tianis she couldn't be with her, and that she would focus on her work. The Matriarch did not take kindly to this revelation, the obsessive power and control she had always experienced in her work coming to the surface. She sneered at Sable, told her all the ways she was being unfairly treated. How she had done so much for her, overlooked so many things about her. Did Sable really think that Tianis would let some wretched demon, a succubus of the darkest hells, escape alive?

This betrayal truly hurt. For the first time in her life, Sable felt genuine tears leap to her eyes. She wept, even as she was locked away in the dungeons. She sat on her bed, staring at the wall, nearly non-responsive as the Matriarch or one of the guards would come down to break her down with words. And then, one day, more than a month later, she took a deep breath and went to sleep. She travelled the distance to Tianis's dream. She indulged to the fullest extent she could, drained as much desire and pleasure from the experience as possible. And then she planted a single idea in the woman's mind. The next day, she was released. And as she left the premises forever, Sable watched the husk of her former master leap from the island and to her death on the rocks below.

After that day, she vowed never to let anyone get the better of her again. Sable travelled to Castle Town, where she began a career as a theatre actress, establishing a reputation once more as a highly desirable but unobtainable woman. She drank thoroughly of the population, dancing and singing on stage with their stolen energy, but she could never get the cynicism to leave her eyes. Over the next several years, she began to become more erratic. She had plenty of desire to siphon away, but she didn't want it in the same way she once had. She indulged in her own fantasies as often as she liked, but even the sweetest foods turned to ash on her tongue. She felt cold and abandoned. She daydreamed of returning to that little cottage on the edge of the rolling wheat fields, a place where she would have happily spent her whole life. A place and a society and a people that she believed in with her whole spirit.

And then she felt it. Through the dreamscape, she felt a vibration across dimensions. Shortly after her 25th birthday, she sought it out. For several days, she explored deeper and deeper into the dreamscape. She no longer cared if she woke up- this was the first true curiosity she had felt in ages. And she came upon a strange sight. Another Sable, no, a confluence of Sables, blue and gold spirits slightly offset from one another, but vibrating along the subconscious realm, intertwined as one green strand.

She watched. She witnessed the moments of their lives, though she could feel her own body beginning to wane in the Castle Town inn she had lived in for years. Though she could not fully protect, she preserved their lives again and again. Sable protected the green confluence when she was held captive in the mountains of Necluda, dipping into the Zora Finn's mind to suggest what she had suggested to her own captor so long ago. The confluence would never have to deal with the shame and guilt she did, of watching a former lover dash their body on the rocks. She made them conveniently forget a meeting, directing them instead to work the day that another Rito from Dragon Roost was going to arrive. She played with the strands, just little things here and there to keep them safe. She felt a protective desire toward them, for they were her.

And though Sable couldn't save the confluence from their ultimate fate, she pulled one final trick, grabbing the demon and pulling it back into its other, waiting body. The other Sable might have had more formal training in the art, but she had never used it to its full potential the way this Sable had. And she kept watching. After months, the people of Castle Town had forgotten about her. The desire she had felt wane now disappeared entirely. She felt her body waste away, and was glad to feel it finally die, the burdens of that life and that world gone forever.

She had a much more interesting future ahead of her, after all.

Allura

Name: Allura of the Eventide
Pronouns: She/Her
Race: Zora
Class: Mage

Appearance: Allura is from a place very far from the regal splendour of Zora's Domain. Along with her strange point of origin comes an equally strange appearance. A large, translucent, bell-shaped hood covers the top of her head, hanging to her shoulders all around. Eight blue and lavender luminescent tendrils hang from the bell to her knees, but are often bundled together behind her shoulders when she interacts with others. After all, they have a nasty sting associated with them and she would hate to accidentally poison someone.

From behind her veil, Allura's appearance is somewhat reminiscent of a Zora, though she appears far more frail and delicate. Paper-white skin covers a body that would appear emaciated by the standards of the surface, and she can often only stand on her own for a couple hours at a time before returning to water. Her midnight-blue eyes have no colour difference between the sclera and the iris, often unsettling the people she speaks to. Her fingers are, as people have been quick to tell her, too long and much too thin (or as they have said, "freaky"). More tendrils travel from her neck, down along her body, before rippling out at her abdomen and becoming a mass of ribbon-like, luminescent threads circling her lower body. While it is clear to an observer that she is a Zora, she has none of the standard elements. No fins, no fishtail, no silver accessories.

Skills: Allura is a spellcaster by trade. She is a capable conduit of magical energies of all types, whether elemental, illusion, or altering the structure of the things around her. While she has knowledge of all magic, her practical expertise is offensive elemental magic, with a particular knack for electricity. She is capable of limited-range telepathy, communicating in images and concepts to a single person or small group within five metres. Her body has a natural bioluminescent quality to it, though it is soft enough that most people don't notice when she is in a lit space. When Allura is agitated or otherwise uncomfortable, the gentle blue glow becomes a much brighter green.

Notes:

  • Allura channels her magic through a long staff wrought from coral. It's an oceanic rainbow of colour, ranging from reds to violets to bright blues. The sharp, angular coral of the staff swirls around its focal point: a gigantic, flawless pearl. When Allura emerged from the ocean, she brought the staff with her, and used it as a walking aid to travel across land when needed to reach Castle Town.

  • Allura enjoys teaching, and has approached Castle Town to work as an instructor in the soon-to-open magic academy. Until then, she has been making a living as a private tutor.

  • Because of her fragile biology, Allura is unable to stand for very long. She commissioned a large, glass container, which she then enchanted to improve its strength. Filled with water, the aquarium takes up a sizeable portion of her home in Castle Town. When she's within the water, she often communicates telepathically with those outside, as they would not be able to hear nor understand her native, underwater tongue.

Ryla

Name: Ryla
Pronouns: They/Them
Race: Goron
Class: Diplomat

We are a proud people. How could we not be? For all of recorded history, we looked down on the rest of Hyrule.

Appearance: Other Gorons would consider Ryla a bit of a runt. Though lacking the constant physical reinforcement of the mining or smithing clans, they still tower above the Hylians with whom they've surrounded themself. Slightly shorter than the average Goron, their lack of size only truly shows in their thinner arms and stomach- they would laugh disarmingly and say that Castle Town's quarry lacks the same flavour as a good rock roast. Like many of their kind, Ryla has brown eyes and white hair, which they keep loose, hanging around their shoulders and down their back.

Having sprung from the earth near a crystal cave, they have growths of ruby-coloured growths in place of eyebrows, along with flecks of various gem-like colourings around their face, though especially built up around the chin and shoulders. These unintentional patterns set them apart from many of their brethren, though crystal-speckled Gorons are merely uncommon, not unheard of, in Goron City.

They take their position seriously as a representative to the Hylians, and have therefore begun wearing clothing to better blend in with their surroundings. A sweeping crimson cloak is pinned in the front with their badge of office: a chiselled steel depiction of the Hylian royal crest over a backdrop of a gear, the Triforce replaced with a hammer. Under it, Ryla wears a humble, dark brown tunic and trousers, though they keep their feet bare. How could they possibly represent their people, much less the Boss, without keeping a solid connection to the ground?

I am not important, but we, the Goron people, are. We have been invaluable to the development and building of Hyrule, as much as any other race.

Notes:
  • Represents the clans and their varied interests to the rest of Hyrule.
  • Has an office in Castle Town near what used to be the Castle District.

Nephthys

Name: Nephthys
Family Branch: Sabbah
Pronouns: She/Her
Class: Professed of the Goddess

Appearance: Nephthys spends most of her time in seclusion, being one of a small sect of religious adherents worshipping the Sand Goddess in a temple built atop what had been the West Gerudo Ruins. While in meditative seclusion, or when travelling to the villages of Gerudo Town or Kara Kara Bazaar to restock the temple's supplies, she wears a flowing white gown and keffiyeh, covering her entire body except for pale amber eyes. Her arms and legs, any part of her that would be visible even within the gown, are wrapped entirely with linen. This tight wrap accentuates her limbs, which are slightly too long, her body slightly too tall, even for a Gerudo.

She can also be seen on occasion at night. While basking in the glory of mother moon, she has very different clothing. The chosen of the moon wear a special set of vestments hidden during the day. A deep cowl casts her face in shadow, though her eyes have a tendency to glow a pale blue within that shadow. The cowl is connected to a large, brown mantle covering her arms and torso, which hangs down to her knees. The rest of her face, along with her arms and legs, are wrapped. On the front of the mantle is a small symbol of the goddess in red and gold. The moon mother grants her twin long daggers with handles of pearl, blades of gold, and edged with obsidian. Not designed for combat, they are intended for specific rituals and the fulfilment of her goddess's requests. Nephthys is guided by a higher purpose, a calling, and she must fulfill it. She has a tendency to arrive very suddenly, to the surprise of those she calls upon.

Lute

Name: Lute
Pronouns: She/Her
Race: Zora
Class: Ranger / Tracker

Appearance: Lute is a member of the Llamhigyn people, Zora hailing from the deep Faron jungle of Hyrule. Like many of her people, she is small enough to successfully blend in among the canopy, her skin a mix of browns, blacks, and dark greens. Her eyes, large and fully black, are often fixed on a target. Her body is made for hiding in the trees, laying still for long periods of time while waiting for a target to come slightly too close.

Notes:
  • The Llamhigyn people are extremely isolationist. Though they are capable of speaking Hylian, and have historically traded with Lakeside and Highland Stables, and historically as far out as Deya and Lurelin Villages, their home village is camouflaged and has never been found.
  • The Llamhigyn are rarely seen if they're hunting, but while moving to and from hunting spots, have been seen in many forests across southern and eastern Hyrule, not only in Faron, but also Central Hyrule (Baltrea Lake and the Forest of Time, and more recently moving onto the Great Plateau) and Necluda (Bubinga Forest and the Hickaly Woods). They tend to travel at night, spending days at a time in place, to bring their prey back to their central village.
  • Lute is a curious creature. Though she's a trained huntress in the traditions of her people, she has often hidden outside various villages and encampments and watched the other races there. She has even seen various other Zora phenotypes, either River Zora at the highland border of the forest or the Sea Zora in Lake Hylia.

Griff the Gryphon

Name: Griff
Pronouns: He/Him
Race: Rito
Class: Mage

Appearance: Standing approximately waist high to any average-height Hylian, Griff makes up for his height with an abundance of focused energy. He has an abundance of grey and white feathers, making him sometimes look so fluffy as to be nearly spherical. While attending the Academy of Magic in Castle Town, he is wearing mage robes and, to his extreme delight and the extreme frustration of his teachers, a pointy mage hat.

Notes:
  • Everything is a game to Griff. He approaches magic like a series of strangely-shaped tools through which he can solve any problem.
  • Nearly uncontainable in his enthusiasm, Griff occasionally disrupts classes, though he attempts to keep his energy under control.
  • Because of how he approaches magic, Griff usually comes to spellcasting in inefficient or awkward ways. His professors have expressed confusion that he's capable of casting spells at all.
  • Griff loves explaining his approach to magic as just pretending the obstacle isn't there, and then finding out why it's no longer there.
